Carlisle Cathedral – The Fratry

Feilden Fowles has completed the transformation of Fratry at Carlisle Cathedral which marks the biggest project carried out on the site for more than 150 years.

The £2.48 million restoration project was completed in 2020 and the cathedral re-opened its doors to visitors in July of the same year.

A new entrance has been created, along with a newly built red sandstone entrance pavilion which links the old and new structures seamlessly.

We were asked to work alongside Feilden Fowles on the restoration project to source a selection of new furniture for the café area, events, learning, and outdoor spaces.

The Workform team supplied outdoor chairs and tables from the classic Fermob Luxemborg collection in a subtle calm green. We also provided locally-sourced Ercol Ava chairs and tables made in solid ash, along with Lensvelt 101 stackable events chairs with brass sledge bases and warm red upholstery.

The reformed venue has won a number of awards including the RIBA National Award 2022, the RIBA Regional North West Awards 2022, and the CECA Collaborative Partnership Award 2020.
